Global Plastic Pollution Intensifies, Plastic Pyrolysis Solutions Have Broad Application Prospects

Global plastic pollution is intensifying at an unprecedented rate. As of 2025, the annual global generation of waste plastics has exceeded 420 million tons, of which approximately 210 million tons come from the packaging sector, accounting for 50%. However, the global average recycling rate for waste plastics remains at around 14.8%—the European Union, China, Japan, and other regions have recycling rates exceeding 30%, while emerging markets in Southeast Asia and Africa remain below 8%. Meanwhile, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) estimates that global plastic waste will reach 1.3 billion tons by 2040.

Against this backdrop, waste plastic pyrolysis solutions, as a primary means of chemical recycling, are becoming a core pathway to address this challenge. They "crack" mixed, contaminated, and low-value waste plastics into high-value products such as pyrolysis oil and combustible gas, achieving both harmless treatment of waste and its conversion into energy resources and chemical feedstocks, truly realizing "waste-to-energy and resource recycling." Pyrolysis equipment enterprises represented by Niutech are driving this technological pathway toward global industrial implementation.

I. Plastic Pyrolysis Market Applications: From Technical Validation to Large-Scale Commercial Operation

The application scenarios for pyrolysis products continue to expand. Primary pyrolysis oil can be directly used as industrial fuel or marine fuel—i.e., "plastic-to-fuel." After deep processing, it can yield high-value-added chemical feedstocks such as naphtha, olefins, and aromatics. Driven by environmental regulations such as PPWR, by 2026, the average proportion of recycled plastics committed to by major global consumer brands will reach 30%, with chemically recycled materials gaining increasing favor year by year. Multinational companies such as Shell Chemicals and Dow have established stable waste plastic recycling and pyrolysis systems, and BASF plans to achieve €17 billion in sales from circular economy solutions by 2030.

II. Niutech: An Industrial Benchmark for Plastic Pyrolysis Equipment

Niutech has focused on pyrolysis technology for over 30 years and is a leading enterprise mastering core industry technologies. Its self-developed "Industrial Continuous Waste Plastic Pyrolysis Production Line" has been awarded the National Science and Technology Progress Award. It requires no cumbersome pre-processing steps such as cleaning, sorting, drying, or fine crushing of materials, and achieves efficient one-step pyrolysis under safe and environmentally compliant conditions, offering multiple advantages including high recovery rate, high-quality products, low energy consumption, and high safety.

Niutech's waste plastic pyrolysis equipment has been deployed in multiple countries and regions worldwide, forming an industrial layout covering Europe and Southeast Asia.

In the Thailand project, waste plastics are processed through continuous pyrolysis to obtain pyrolysis oil, which is then further processed into gasoline and diesel fractions. The project has been operating for over 10 years and still runs well, recognized by the industry as a benchmark for long-term stable operation.

A 10,000-ton-scale waste plastic chemical recycling project in Europe has achieved a complete closed loop of chemical recycling from "waste plastic → pyrolysis oil → chemical feedstock → new plastic," marking that Niutech's waste plastic pyrolysis technology and complete equipment have reached world-advanced levels.

In March 2026, the complete waste plastic pyrolysis equipment provided to an international group in Vietnam was put into operation for several months, processing plastic waste from industrial production, and has become a benchmark project for large-scale continuous waste plastic pyrolysis in Southeast Asia.

III. Environmental Benefits: The "Dual Value" of Pollution Reduction and Carbon Reduction

Pyrolysis converts mixed, contaminated, and low-value waste plastics that cannot be processed by mechanical recycling into high-value products, preventing them from being landfilled or incinerated and polluting the environment. Through pyrolysis, plastic waste can be converted into pyrolysis oil, reducing petroleum consumption in plastic production and being of great significance to energy security.

Chemical recycling of 1 ton of waste plastic can avoid greenhouse gas emissions from plastic incineration. Niutech's technology and equipment have obtained ISCC certification.

Driven by the triple forces of continuously intensifying global plastic pollution, increasingly stringent international regulations, and surging demand for recycled materials from brand owners, waste plastic pyrolysis has become a core pathway for plastic pollution control. Niutech's industrial practices fully demonstrate that waste plastics are no longer an environmental burden but an "urban oil field" that can be recycled and generate considerable economic returns.
